Description
Represent the Models
Group: Whole Class/Alone
Materials: Represent the Models sheet
Issue a Represent the Models sheet to each student. Instruct students to complete the number bonds to represent the quantity shaded that is equal to one whole in each representation. Review students’ answers in a group discussion. Have volunteers model the examples on the board.
Instructional Tip: Focus on the relationship between parts and the whole. When reviewing students’ answers and modeling examples on the board, emphasize the connection between the shaded parts and the whole. Encourage students to explain how the parts they identified add up to represent one whole. Ask guiding questions like, “How do the parts combine to form the whole?” or “What fraction of the whole is each part?” This helps students better understand the concept of number bonds and reinforces the idea of part-whole relationships, a key foundation for understanding fractions and proportions.
This tip promotes conceptual understanding and makes abstract ideas more concrete..
